Hertsmere Community Lottery July 2023

04 July 2023

Last month we spoke about #NationalVolunteersWeek and at the end of the article we mentioned that on Sunday 2 July is the UK’s third annual #ThankYouDay. You can use this hashtag in social media posts to say thank you for everyone and everything that makes our communities great and wonderful places to live in. Though the day has passed you can still support your favourite Good Cause! Why not tag and thank your favourite registered Good Cause on our Hertsmere Community Lottery? If there not already signed up, why not let them know what they’re missing out on!

This month on Saturday 15, it is Social Media Giving Day. It focuses on encouraging users on social media platforms to donate to a charity/organisation they choose. The campaign started in 2013 by a platform called Givver that was dedicated to fundraising via twitter. All users had to do was sign up and tweet to donate. They needed to include the hashtag ‘#give’, the twitter handle of the cause you wanted to support and the amount you wanted to donate. It originated in the United States and has not yet received the National Trust status, but I think it is a great idea for local organisations to get involved with to raise the profile of their organisation within their community.

The aim of Social Media Giving Day is to promote social media platforms as a way to support charities and Good Causes by raising public awareness and donating. So why not use this opportunity to do some self-advertising and showcase just how good you are as Good Cause on the lottery!

Why not use this day to get online and use the lottery to #Give to your Good Cause!

Did you know that this month is also Plastic Free July?

This is a global movement that aims to contribute to the solution of plastic pollution. Click here to find out more and take on the challenge of going plastic free for one whole month!

It might seem like a big jump from going to using plastic every day to trying to go ‘plastic free’ but taking the initial steps and making small changes to your daily life can make a big difference. For example, taking a reusable bag on your weekly shop or taking a reusable bottle with you rather than buying a plastic one when you’re out. These are only 2 of many ideas that all add up and help to reduce the amount of plastic waste we see reaching landfill and our oceans.

Click here to see if your Good Cause is already registered with us!

Don’t see your favourite environmental charity or local volunteer group on our list? Get them to sign up to the lottery today! It’s all done online, meaning no paper waste or transportation required from signing up.

Lastly, another date to keep in your diaries is Sunday 30 July which is International Day of Friendship. It was created by the UN General Assembly in 2011 with the idea that friendship between peoples, cultures and countries can inspire peace effort and build bridges between communities.
