Hertsmere Community Lottery Round-up August 2024

August Hertsmere Lottery RoundUp

31 July 2024

We’re into August now, meaning we’re already eight months into 2024.

We’re starting the month with World Scout Scarf Day, where members of the Scouting Community worldwide wear their scarves out in public to commemorate the first Scout Camp on Brownsea Island in 1907. You can support our Good Cause, 1st Elstree and Borehamwood Scout Group, by purchasing a ticket here.

On Wednesday the 7th of August it is National Play Day. This year’s theme is ‘The Culture of Childhood’ to celebrate that every child’s play is a distinct feature of behaviour across generations and cultures. You can find out more about Play Day here. We have many registered Good Causes who work with children through many different aspects, including schools, clubs and events, so we hope to see everyone involved on Wednesday 7th!

International Cat Day is on August 8th and although we don’t currently have a specific cause that supports cats in a specific way, that doesn’t mean we don’t want to support them in the future. Do you know a local animal rescue or cat sanctuary? Let them know that signing up to our Hertsmere Community Lottery is free and can help with their fundraising. Point them to our website for more information!

This year, International Allotments Week is taking place between the 12th and 18th of August, celebrating the benefits of allotment gardening for communities, individuals, and the planet as a whole! Getting involved in gardening and nature is a great way to boost your physical and mental well-being, so it would be great to see everyone trying something new or supporting a local gardening project run by one of our Good Causes. Click here to find a list of our Good Causes, if you can’t see your favourite, make sure you get them to sign up and start fundraising with the Hertsmere Community Lottery.

This month we are celebrating Herts Pride, with Hertfordshire’s largest LGBTQ+ festival which is happening on Saturday 31st August in Cassiobury Park, Watford. If you read last year’s article and/or have been to previous Herts Pride events then you’ll be aware of their popular annual dog show! Coincidentally (or perhaps not), International Dog Day falls in August as well – to be specific, on the 26th!

Friday the 16th of August is national tell a joke day' so below is a joke to celebrate!

Why was the lottery ticket a good motivational speaker? Because it always gets people to dream big!

We only have one Birthday Bonus Shout-out this month, and it’s to Home-Start, who are turning one on the 4th of August, so make sure to show them some support!

Lastly, this month’s super Prize draw is a £2,000 Luxury Holiday!

Summer is finally here and to celebrate, on Saturday 31st August, the national draw will take place and one lucky person will win our biggest EVER summer prize – a £2,000 Luxury Holiday! Whisk your family away – or treat yourself to a 5-star European city break! With £2,000 to spend on your dream holiday, the world is at your feet! Make sure you’re supporting one of our registered Good Causes here to be in with a chance of winning.
