HCL October News Article

29 September 2023

We’re into the tenth month of 2023, and it’s a busy one at the start! So let’s take a look at our regular round-up on some of the weird and wonderful ‘days of’ taking place in October!

At the end of September, we had the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning, and now, at the start of October, it's International Day of Coffee. What better way to kick-start the month than by enjoying a nice cup of coffee (hot or cold) whilst reading our latest article!

World Space Week is taking place between the 4th and 10th of October! If any of our Community Lottery Family are getting involved, we would love to hear all about it! Remember to tag us on our socials so we don't miss it. If not, don’t worry, but this is a great opportunity for all our Good Causes to BOOST their fundraising and spread the word about their organisation. Wednesday 4th October is World Animal Day! Its origins were to improve the welfare standards of animals around the globe! Our Good Cause, Cecil’s Horse Sanctuary, is dedicated to helping horses and ponies in our local area who have been neglected or abandoned by providing them with a loving and caring home within a safe environment. Click here to support their work by buying a lottery ticket!

Schools started back last month so it's only fitting that Thursday 5th October is World Teachers Day. Why not take this opportunity to thank all the teachers in your life who are educating our future generations? We have a few schools and parent associations on our community lottery, so make sure to check out their websites and support them if you can! Friends of Monksmead Parent Association, Friend of St. Teresa’s Catholic Primary School, Mount Grace School and Hertswood Academy.

World Smile Day is taking place on Friday 6th October. This year marks 25 years of World Smile Day. This is a perfect opportunity to get involved and ‘Do an act of kindness' and 'Help one person smile!’

Tuesday 10th October is World Mental Health Day. The theme for 2023 (set by the World Foundation of Mental Health) is 'Mental health is a universal human right.' It’s a day about raising awareness of mental health and encouraging positive change. Take this time to talk about mental health within your workplace and community and how to get support if someone is struggling. Citizens Advice Hertsmere and Herts School Outreach are two of our Good Causes who are helping make a positive difference in our community.

World Online Networking Day is on the 29th of October. Have you ever needed an excuse to connect and start expanding your social network, whether that's personally or professionally? This is your chance to make that step and get involved! Why not try reaching out to other local Good Causes and seeing if there's room for collaboration between you?

Lastly, Halloween falls on a Tuesday this year. However you choose to take part, we hope you enjoy the spooky celebrations.

The next Super Draw prize is a LUXURY THEATRE TRIP. Make sure to register before Saturday 28th October to be in with a chance of winning!
