August News Article

01 August 2023

We are into August already! Let's have a look at what is happening this month.

On Thursday 3 August, it is Cycle to Work Day! Although commuting looks different in 2023, with hybrid working styles becoming a popular alternative working model for organisations, we still want to encourage all types of bike rides! Our lottery is home to a few sports and fitness clubs, but we only have one cycling club… Potters Bar Cycling Club!

This is your chance to be involved in the cycle to work day and to support a local Good Cause aimed at creating opportunities for individuals to come together to share a hobby or start a new one!

This month we are celebrating Herts Pride, with Hertfordshire’s largest LGBTQ+ festival taking place on Saturday 19 August 2023 at Cassiobury Park, Watford. Due to popular demand, they’ll be having their annual dog show, so make sure to grab a ticket and check it out! Coincidentally (or perhaps not!), August is also the month when we can celebrate National Dog Day on the 26th.

Seeing since dogs have been mentioned, it is only fair to mention their feline counterpart as well! On Tuesday 8 August, it is International Cat Day too. Why not use these opportunities to support your local Good Causes benefitting the local animals? Don’t see your favourite animal-loving organisation? Why not tell them about the lottery and get them signed up!

This year, International Allotments Week is taking place between the 7 and 13 of August, marking its 21st year of celebrating the benefits of allotment gardening for communities, individuals, and the planet as a whole! Getting involved in gardening and nature is a great way to boost your physical and mental well-being, so it would be great to see everyone trying something new or supporting a local gardening project run by one of our Good Causes. Click here to find a list of our Good Causes, if you can’t see your favourite, make sure you get them to sign up and start fundraising with the Hertsmere Community Lottery.

Lastly, we would like to congratulate the individual from The Rainbow Lottery who won the national prize draw of a £1,000 Airbnb voucher that took place on 29th July! They were supporting the Norfolk LGBT+ Project.

Make sure you don’t miss out on the next prize draw taking place on 26th August! Keep your eyes peeled on our socials for updates!
